Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program

A contractual arrangement between CBA and the FCC can allow Connecticut stations to have a three year period of immunity from random inspections by the FCC Field Office Bureau.

The inspector does a complete FCC style inspection of your station(s) and gives you a confidential report that outlines any problems or any violations found. The inspection covers non-technical (public file, etc.) matters as well as technical matters.

Once a station is found in compliance with all FCC regulations, the FCC will not conduct an inspection, investigation, or audit of the station for a period of 3 years from the date of the Certificate of Compliance issued to the station by the CBA; however, notwithstanding the following:

  1. “Targeted Tower Safety Inspection” (relative to tower safety issues and limited to the antenna site)
  2. “Complaint Driven Inspection” (any complaint initiated against a station)
  3. Political broadcasting, EEO and other public file audits.
It is the station’s obligation to correct any problems the CBA inspector finds during their inspection. The FCC will be notified of your compliance and the FCC agrees not to perform a random inspection of your station(s) for three years

The Connecticut Broadcasters Association suggests that you prepare for the inspection and correct any known problems before entering into this alternate inspection process.

For more information, please contact Jennifer Parsons at the CBA.
